Character Portrait: Bayne Thaddeus

Born in 2550 to parents, Baran Bane and Isadora Thaddeus, Bayne grew to an imposing figure at 2.04 meters with broad shoulders, a square jaw and light blond hair, which eventually changed to silver as he grew older. He experienced much of the original plight of the Sy’Arrians and maintains a perspective of doing what it takes to further the greater good.

His father, Baran born in 2406, hailed from a long line of warriors in ancient Scotland on Earth who either served as highly trained protectors of those in positions of power or as part of elite specialty units in the military. Many of Baran's physical features could be seen in Bayne, such as his 2.14-meter height and square jaw line. Although very loving and affectionate with his son, Baran could be stand offish when it came to discussing difficult matters from his past, resulting in all too often, gruff encounters with both Bayne and his mother, Isadora.

Like other Sy'Arrian children, at the age of five, Bayne chose his mother's surname, Thaddeus, to honor his deep love and respect of her. Isadora Thaddeus, born in 2392 to Greek parents on Earth, spent almost every moment of her time to developing her son's mind around the precepts of compassion and self-awareness, while also sparking fierce independence in the young man. Bayne spent the first 29-years of his life predominately training with his mother, learning a variety of disciplines: herbalism, astronomy, archeology, and ancients religions.

He learned basic martial arts and weapons training from his father; however, it was not until his mother was killed by fanatical elements on Earth prior to the Sy'Arrians exodus in 2580 did Bayne begin to hone his skills as a warrior. This would fuel his rage at the loss of his mother, while producing an extreme focus on learning every aspect he could relating to assassination, martial arts, all manner of weapons, combat strategies, ways to extract information, and their philosophical origins.

Bayne's rich and complicated background, in many ways, is much of his own choosing.  He became so obsessed with learning everything possible from his father, he moved to others with even more experience and knowledge, when Baran had no further wisdom nor tutelage to impart. This left his father at a disadvantage to reign in Bayne's often unhealthy and intense desire to master all styles of combat no matter the cost. Eventually, Bayne learned additional forms of the martial arts from many masters among the other races; Hyprovian, Pylogi, Traxian, etc. Due to these experiences, extensive training and thirst for information, Bayne was picked by James Striken to establish the Sy’Arrian fighting force and join him to help unite the races in what history later referred to as The Amalgamation Conflict, which lasted nearly 133 years.

During the course of James’ crusade, Bayne took several opportunities to further develop his abilities on the various fields of battle, where his newly created Sy'Arrian warrior class was put to the test. Although Bayne and his father took part in the extended campaign to unite the races, both were typically in separate areas of the universe due to the numerous battle fronts. In 2807, during an incursion on the planet of Leesto in the Praysis star system, Baran, along with a small contingent of Sy'Arrian warriors would encounter the Mardrayon's who were capable of absorbing Akasha. If prolonged, hostile contact with a Mardrayon ensued, the essence of the one being absorbed is lost leaving behind a mindless husk. Only Baran and two other warriors managed to escape with very little side effects. He conveyed the altercation to Bayne, who immediately began searching for ways to effectively counter such attacks if encountered again.

In 2901, while fighting one of the larger space pirate factions on the planet of Belsarus in the Neridian Star System, Baran was killed in an act of selflessness, while distracting the main bulk of the pirate forces towards his entrenched position, thus allowing for the existing fighting force to regroup and launch a concerted counter offensive. Although the counter offensive did not arrive in time to save Baran, it did allow them to crush the pirate forces, which served to cripple them beyond the ability to rebuild their faction. Upon receiving the news, Bayne was matter of fact and visibly unshaken, speaking to his perfected ability to compartmentalize.

After returning to Hyprus, Bayne became more involved with the Sy’Arrian government and retained his appointment as the key trainer and leader of their fighting force. Also, during this time, Bayne began to develop a strong relationship with Lourous Mirriam, whom he trained as if he were his own son. In turn, he began to confront his inner turmoil and let go of the rage from events of his past; this was largely due to Lourous’ influence.

Much of the positive disposition Bayne developed slowly melted away, at least partially, when the second Cri’lin Council led by Augustas Mirriam, asked Bayne to explore the possibility of creating a new fighting force comprised of elementals. Bayne fundamentally disagreed with this venture citing misuse of Akasha and the perversion of the elements used to create them. When the Council removed him from his position and proceeded without him, Bayne protested, which lead him to be effectively silenced by the Council.

Lourous agreed with Bayne’s position on the matter but was not able to do anything substantial about it. It was then Bayne took matters in to his own hands and attempted to return what elementals had been created back to their original states. When his attempt was thwarted, the existing Council construed his acts treasonous. When he was brought before the Council for judgment, Lourous intervened and stopped them form banishing Bayne to some remote and desolate planet. It was at this judgmental hearing Bayne renounced his Sy’Arrian blood and warned the Council they were headed down a path of destruction.

Shortly after the Council hearing, Bayne told Lourous he was leaving the Sy’Arrians home city of Angira to never return. Only Lourous knew of Bayne’s location, where the old warrior lives a life of solitude and self-study.
