Character Portrait: Cyra Leurn
This character portrait will mark an end to highlighting the membership of the Cri’lin Council prior to the Sy’Arrian Massacre of 3087. In its infancy, the council took shape in 2630, laying the foundation for the Sy’Arrians to thrive on their newly adopted home world of Hyprus. I mentioned many of these elements in a series of blog posts titled, Who Are The Sy’Arrians.
Prior to their appointment on the Cri’lin Council, Cyra and the other members; Lourous, Aurelius, Brakel and Kye Lee, already had the moniker, The Five due to their exploits while performing ambassadorial duties for the other races. I intend to elaborate on how this came to be and the concept behind The Five in an upcoming post.
Cyra’s origination has changed little since I first conceived the character albeit with a few refinements to her background, since The Cradle of Destiny was published in 2018. In the first iteration of book one to the Sy’Arrian Legacy Series, copyrighted under the title, The Dark Traveler, she is blunt with little patience for the political side of her duties. Cyra is the second to the youngest member of The Five with Aurelius Kepler holding the title of most young among them; a fact she loves to point out to him, which speaks to her playful side.
A calculated observer of the universe around her, Cyra Leurn came to the attention of newly appointed High Leader, Lourous Mirriam due mostly to her unabashed opinions on how the Sy’Arrians should develop their internal and external relationships. Her ability to carve a commonsense approach through dense layers of bureaucracy was a skillset the prior High Leader of the Cri’lin Council lacked; an ability Lourous knew would be useful in changing the Sy’Arrian people’s view of the Council’s leadership.
Cyra’s lineage stems from two Earth cultures; Celtic and African. Her father, Morcan Leurn born in 2672, whose lineage sprang from Cardiff, Wales, specialized in microbiology and biochemistry. Morcan was one of several key scientists who were successful in identifying the metamorphic processes in the Sy’Arrian body, which enabled them to connect with the elemental forces shaping the universe; a process they would later name Akasha.
Her mother, Johari Sudani, born in 2645 has a rich history dating back to ancient Africa. Johari also pursued life sciences with a focus in physiology and medicine, eventually providing her an opportunity to participate in the very same cadre of researchers who identified the science behind the Sy’Arrians ability to touch the known elements; it is also where she met her eventual life partner, Morcan Leurn.
Morcan had been willing to adopt Johari’s grandmothers name, Iman when their daughter was born in 2795. Sy’Arrian’s only produce one child with rare cases of two noted in certain family lines such as the Mirriam’s. Flattered by the gesture, Johari maintained tradition by adopting Morcan’s, Persian grandmothers name of Cyra.
Eventually maturing to a height of 1.6 meters and 70.3 kilograms, Cyra’s smooth dark skin, full lips, sharp facial features, and finely toned body, often serve to neutralize highly emotional confrontations. Nonetheless, she is most noteworthy for her heavy-handed approaches during combat and a “tell it like it is” attitude.
Initially following the paths of her parents, Cyra started her life career as a medical practitioner with an emphasis in genetics. Prior to obtaining full Sister status at 80 years of age, she decided to also become a Sy’Arrian Warrior. Surprisingly, her parents fully accepted this choice believing it would be a true test of her abilities. Cyra’s motivation to augment her existing knowledge, while venturing into a field outside of her family’s typical life path was another reason helping to solidify Lourous decision to nominate her to a council seat.
Cyra’s family symbol originates from her father. It is centered on her robes in the back and repeated in the front. A pair of medium sized, open palmed, white hands pointed slightly downward surrounded by a soft, green colored hue.
